Real estate in the San Francisco bay area rose from 1995 to 2006. One of the longest real estate price increases in our local history. We do not know if there will be a soft landing or not. If interest rates rise I expect prices could decrease. There are many ways to make money in real estate, but to rely on rising prices right now may not be a good idea. Prices in the San Francisco bay area have risen a great deal. People that own property in the bay area have been able to sell (or do a 1031 exchange) here and buy in another state and increase their cash flow to the point that they can retire comfortably on the increased cash flow. There are still several investment strategies that San Francisco bay area investors can use to invest in real estate. In the LONG run real estate is usually a great investment. The real estate market goes up and down in long cycles. If the market starts to go down, it may be best to wait until the market stabilizes before investing. If it starts to go up you need to get in, as it will probably continue to go up for years. The up markets are usually much longer than the down markets. |
